Luke Steyn Makes History for Zimbabwe at Sochi
Alpine skier Luke Steyn became the first athlete from Zimbabwe to compete at the Winter Olympics when he raced in the Men’s Giant Slalom event on Wednesday February 19. Steyn finished the event in 57th place out of 109 competitors. After starting the event ranked 90th in the field, Steyn completed his first run in 1:32.20s to move up the field and finished with a 2-Run aggregate time of 3:06.55s.
Ted Ligety (USA) won the Gold Medal in 2:45.29s. Steve Missillier (France) and Alexis Pinturault (France) earned the Silver and Bronze Medals respectively.
Steyn will also be competing in the Men’s Slalom event on February 22.
