Team Zimbabwe finishes 2014 African Youth Games with 10 Medals

Closing ceremonies were held today for the 2nd African Youth Games in Gaborone, Botswana at the National Stadium of Botswana.  Earlier in the day, Mary Joy Mudyiravanji won the Bronze Medal in the 1500m to collect Team Zimbabwe’s 10th and final medal of the Games.  Other medals were won in Athletics, Basketball,  Golf, Karate, Rugby, Swimming, and Tennis; highlighting several outstanding team and individual performances.  Petra Mukondo was the lone Gold Medalist for Team Zimbabwe, winning the Girls’ Basketball Shooting Competition while Naomi Mandengenda was a double Bronze Medallist in Karate.

Team Zimbabwe finished in the top quarter of the AYG medal count.  Team Egypt won the most Gold Medals to top the Medal Standings with Team South Africa winning the most overall medals.  Full results and standings can be found at the AYG Results Website.
