Team Zimbabwe Concludes Competition Schedule at Youth Olympics
Mary Joy Mudyiravanji (Athletics) concluded Team Zimbabwe’s competition schedule at the 2014 Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing this morning with a 6th place finish in Final A of the Women’s 1500M. Mudyiravanji had earlier posted a Personal Best of 4:28.53 in the Qualification Stage on her way to the Final.
The week has been highlighted by several Personal Bests and strong performances by Team Zimbabwe Athletes. In Athletics, Enlitha Ncube finished 2nd in Final B of the Women’s 3000M while Titus Nyati set a Personal Best of 8:37.82 in Men’s 3000M Final B.
Sophie Teede turned in two strong performances in the Equestrian Competition. First was a 4th place showing as a member of Team Africa in the Continental Team Event followed by a solid 12th place finish in the Individual Open Jumping ahead of nearly 20 other competitors.
In Rowing, both Daniella Du Toit and Kyle Hinde finished well in their respective Single Sculls Competitions. Du Toit came in 3rd place in the Women’s Final B and Hinde finishing 2nd in the Men’s Final D.
Swimmers Chad Idensohn and Robyn Lee both set Personal Bests during their competition schedules. Idensohn qualified for the Semi-Finals of the 50M Freestyle with a Personal Best of 23.12. He also qualified for the Semi-Finals of the 50M Butterfly. Lee won her Heat of the 50M Butterfly with a Personal Best of 28.96.
In Triathlon, Serena Rendell finished the Women’s Individual Race in a Personal Best Time of 1:10:10. Drew Williams also set a Personal Best in the Men’s Race with a time of 1:01:58.
The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee would like to congratulate all our athletes for their terrific performances in Nanjing. The organization is proud not only of the sterling on-field results but also for representing the country in the Cultural & Education Programme and maintaining the spirit of friendship in competition at the Games.
