In just over 520 days Team Zimbabwe will take part in the Games of the XXXI Summer Olympiad to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Athletes in various disciplines are upping their training in anticipation of qualification events scheduled for 2015: athletes with the potential to qualify from the disciplines of athletics, rowing and swimming have presented their ongoing preparation programmes. The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) continues to intensify its support for these athletes as well as those from other disciplines, still working through their qualification paces; the final team is likely to be confirmed no later than the June 30 2016 internationally set deadline.

ZOC is pleased to announce the appointment of seasoned administrator Titus Itai Zvomuya as Chef De Mission (CdM) to the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. Having successfully completed his tour of duty as CdM to the 2014 Nanjing Youth Olympic Games, Titus’ appointment was extended to the Summer Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from the 5th – 21st of August 2016: this recommendation was presented by the ZOC Technical and Development Commissions and upheld in line with a resolution passed by the ZOC Board. The CdM’s main role will be to effectively manage the Zimbabwe Olympic Team before, during and after the Games.

Titus, a ZOC Board member, is currently the Director of the Bindura University of Science Education’s National Sports Academy: he brings with him vast experience in sport governance and management, having lectured and managed sport in tertiary institutions such as the University of Zimbabwe and Chinhoyi University, as well as holding senior administrative posts in the Zimbabwe Rugby Union and Zimbabwe Cricket.
